Early Cavity Detection with DIAGNOdent®
When cavities first develop, they are usually located deep within the tiny crevices of your teeth. They are often invisible to the naked eye, and even the best digital x-rays may not register the first signs of dental decay. The decay will spread quickly, but by the time traditional dental technology can detect the cavity, it may be too late to save the tooth. Fortunately, DIAGNOdent® laser cavity screening identifies the earliest and smallest signs of decay. Typically, this means we can treat the problem before the decay spreads further and destroys a significant portion of the tooth. DIAGNOdent® can also detect structural damage that increases your risk for cavities.
During your dental exam, Dr. Dowd or Dr. Wu will scan your teeth with the DIAGNOdent® laser. If the laser encounters any decay, the tooth will appear fluorescent, and the DIANOdent® system will emit a small beeping noise. The device also allows your dentist to determine the degree of decay, since teeth with larger areas of decay will show more fluorescence in the digital analysis. DIAGNOdent® is 90% accurate - far more exact than traditional methods of cavity detection. It is also quick and comfortable. The non-invasive scan takes just a few minutes, making it ideal for children and anyone who wants the fastest and most accurate dental exam possible.
CT Scans for More Precise Implant Placement
Dental implants offer a superior method of dental restoration. By placing a synthetic tooth on a permanent implant post, these restorations are stable, durable, and function like natural teeth. For more precise placement and personalized care, we perform all procedures using CT scans. These scans allow us to take multiple images from various angles and combine them for a 3D view of your mouth. Using these images, Dr. Dowd or Dr. Wu can ascertain the best placement for your implants and can determine whether you might need a bone graft or sinus lift procedure prior to your implant surgery.
