Protect Your or Your Child's Smile with Sealants
Proper brushing and flossing practices at home go a long way for your oral hygiene. However, even the most dedicated of individuals often need additional help in order to prevent worse problems such as bad tooth decay before they start.
This is where dental sealants, an important preventive tool offered at our Woodinville practice, come into play. Sealants cover up small cracks or openings in your teeth or between your teeth in order to prevent decay in those spots.
Dental sealants are made from a plastic resin material which will bond to the surface or your teeth, and harden after application to remain solid and in place. Not only will this prevent bad decay and erosion, but it will actually make your job brushing much quicker and easier.
Sealants can be applied to either children or adults, although they are not commonly utilized for baby teeth. On children, they're utilized when the permanent teeth have broken through the gums to prevent decay in these early stages.
Adults may have sealants recommended depending on their specific circumstances and/or preferences. High quality sealants will last for 3-to-5 years, but it's not unusual for sealants to lass from childhood all the way into adulthood, and that's perfectly safe and normal.
If you have noticed that your existing sealants don't feel the same, or have fallen off, then schedule an appointment to have new seals applied. And if you're wondering whether or not sealants are right for you to begin with, be sure to let us know and we'll answer your questions and come up with a recommendation which makes the most sense for you.
